“He secretly loved looking at her breasts while she was doing something. He loved looking at her breasts in general, although it was the little details which would drive him crazy“. Crème Caramel is a project by renowned Barcelona based production house and editorial studio CANADA. It is a short film born out of a commission from NOWNESS, as part of a larger project in which they invited several directors to interpret the concept of bodily beauty. The project ended spinning off into an object and new line of projects: CANADA books.
Ever since we started Canada we had the idea of publishing something, yet it was only until recently we finally did so. We want to publish the things we find interesting, from any creative field: photography, drawings, fiction, essays, whatever fits in the format of a book and which somehow represents us. We hope this is the first of many. CANADA, Production House
“A behind the scenes of Crème Caramel” is the first issue of what will become a first editorial collection of three book for CANADA. Together the publications form a triptych, ranging from small to tall in size. The book had to become a representation of the video and shooting process, including three of its foremost characteristics, which would ultimately define the publication’s character and style: attention towards the bodily details of the protagonist, playfulness, and a narrating flan.
The new editorial line of CANADA is designed so that each book breathes its own identity without losing the sense of collection.

Coloured in the brown and orange hues of a crème caramel, the book’s cover is divided into two parts: a neutral sleeve – a recurring element which unifies every book in the collection – and an upper part, which carries the title and will diversify according to the content of each publication. Inside, Lope Serrano, director at CANADA, turns detailed frames from the video into flirtatious illustrations inspired by the original project. The behind the scenes process for the short film was shot by photographer Francesc Pascual i Torrens.
Alongside Artifact, a creative production company by Folch, we defined the book’s specifications. While the 17×24 cover is a combination of matte and textured material, the book’s inside counts 84 pages, printed on Munken paper, with a transparent page introduced every four pages creating a playful interaction between illustrations when flipping through the book, telling the Crème Caramel story through a printed medium.
